When you go to the Belém district, in the western part of Lisbon, you will find some of the most impressive monuments of the city. But you will also surely notice a huge crowd at the door of what seems to be a patisserie. Well, it’s not just any patisserie. That is the factory, store and café where you can taste ‘Pastéis de Belém’. Among lisboners, there is always the discussion of who makes the best ‘pastel de nata’ (custard tart), the jewelry of Portuguese pastry. Maybe not everyone agrees that the ones made in Belém are the best, but when you see so much fuss about getting a table at the house that has been serving them since 1837, you can be sure you will find them delicious. The problem, we assure, is avoiding eating six in a row. That's how many fit in a box...
