CCB is about modern art with a view to the Tejo

As it so often occurs in Portugal, the announcement of the construction of a massive public building in Lisbon arose a great controversy in the late 80’s. Portugal was about to host the European Union Presidency in 1992 - its the first in history - and the government decided the city needed a new venue. Built just a few meters away from the historic ‘Mosteiro de Belém’, a XVI century monastery iconic to the city, the Centro Cultural de Belém - (better known as CCB) soon became indispensable for the arts and culture. Home of a permanent collection of modern art that contains works form the most important creators of the XX century, it has shown, through the years, some of the best new artists of our time, both Portuguese or international. There you can find one of the best concert halls of Lisbon. The marble building offers a unique view to the River Tejo, a perfect place to take a break in the sun. At the time of the Web Summit, the CCB presents the Lisbon Architecture Triennale - 4th edition.
