The arabic moods of Casa do Alentejo
The old palace invites you to sit and relax, like an ‘alentejano’
In the south of Portugal, Alentejo is a land of endless plains and few people. Few people that learned the hard way how to get the most of each peace of meat, each portion of flour, each herb from nature.
Food from Alentejo is this unique combination of simple, yet perfectly seasoned dishes. But if it is a land of peasants, there is nothing rural about the house that represents the region in Lisbon.
Casa do Alentejo is installed in a palace built by an aristocratic family in the XVII century. It changed hands many times through the years, and was the subject of continuous remodeling.
In the XX century, it used to be a casino, and the mirror room is a legacy of that era. The palace reminds us of the influence of the Arabic presence in the Iberian Peninsula. A perfecto spot to sit, relax and enjoy the good wines and meats of southern Portugal.
