Calouste Gulbenkian was an Armenian oil tycoon that arrived in Lisbon to escape the troubled times of the II World War. What he left to the country was a Foundation that revolutionized culture in Portugal. For more than 60 years, Gulbenkian has been the home of arts, culture and  science. The headquarters of the Foundation is a modern architecture building, placed in the heart of the city. There you can seem some of the masterpieces that compose the art collection of the Foundation, mostly dedicated to XX century creations.

It is also a place of leisure. It has some of the most beautiful gardens of Lisbon, with a lake and an artificial river that crosses the property. The auditorium, designed to host classical orchestras, is one of the best of the country.

Another tip: in the garden, you will find a cafeteria that offers some of the most tasty artisanal ice creams in town…
