Located in the municipalities of Setúbal, Palmela and Sesimbra, in the south margin of the Tagus, The Nature Park of Arrábida offers 108 square kilometers of pure contact with nature, with a unique vegetation and microclimate.

In this protected area, in which the mountains go as high as 499 meters, the scenic view of the green forest ends in come of the best beaches of the district (Galapinhos, Portinho da Arrábida and Figueirinha), allowing visitors to experience a hike and then a swim in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Convent of Our Lady of Arrábida, sits in the middle of the mountainous landscape, built in the 16th century. The mountain has a characteristic physical geography, modeled by the oceanic activity along many ages. It is even possible to find dinosaur fragments and footprints across the rocks.

The Arrábida forest has a special microclimate, where it is very hot and dry in summer and autumn, while it is foggy and humid in the winter. With a very rich and typical flora and fauna, it is sure to give you a wide look at Portugal’s natural landscape.

Part of the road of the natural park was featured in the 1969 James Bond Film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, in a scene where Tracy Bond (Diana Rigg) is shot by Irma Bunt (Ilse Steppat).
