The official name of the street is Rua de São Bento, but it is known by everybody as Rua Amália. Because it was here that the great fado singer Amália Rodrigues lived most of her life. The older still recall the time when she would open the windows to greet her fans or even sing them a song. Today, her house hosts a little but emotional museum that tells the story of the artist. The street begins in the National Parliament and is full of little stores. Most of them are dedicated to antiques. From old books - you can find some first editions -  to vintage furniture that is always on the verge of being the ‘new thing’ again. Not far, you can visit Mãe de Água (mother of water) the biggest deposit of the ancient water distribution complex that includes the giant aqueduct. Visits to this gigantic stone archway wonder star here.
